BURLINGTON, ON – June 6, 2022 – It’s Local Food Week in Ontario, and Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) is celebrating farmers and their continued dedication to ensuring that all Ontarians can access safe, healthy, locally grown chicken. Local Food Week is an annual recognition and celebration of the bounty of fresh and healthy food grown and processed in Ontario.

“I want to take the time to acknowledge the Ontario chicken farming families for their commitment and dedication to growing safe, healthy, locally-grown chicken for all Ontarians,” said Murray Opsteen, Chair of Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “In Ontario, we are privileged to have access to fresh and nutritious food produced here on our own farmland, and available all year round.”

Local food week in Ontario is an excellent opportunity to celebrate all the farm families who dedicate their lives to producing food for Ontarians to enjoy. By purchasing locally grown food, you can help local farmers carry on their family traditions, support farm development, and foster food sovereignty for years to come.

“On behalf of Ontario’s over 1,300 family run chicken farms, CFO would like to extend sincere thanks to the millions of consumers that continue to choose chicken for their plates,” said Denise Hockaday, CEO of Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “As the demand for chicken continues to grow, we are committed to ensuring a myriad of high quality, locally grown chicken choices are readily available.”

In celebration of Local Food Week, Ontarians can support farmers by purchasing local products, and consider donating to a food bank in your community!
