Brazil, celebrated as the world’s primary hub for poultry meat, is poised for a notable uptick in its meat exports as it moves into 2024. Under the watchful eye of the Brazilian Poultry and Pork Industry Association (ABPA), the nation’s poultry and pork sector has charted a path for ambitious growth.

Brazil is projected to strengthen its position as a dominant force in poultry meat exports, with forecasts indicating exports between 5.2 million and 5.3 million metric tons of chicken meat in 2024. This marks a significant rise from the estimated 5.05-5.15 million metric tons recorded in 2023. A pivotal driver behind this anticipated growth is the prevailing global supply constraints due to avian influenza that has impacted major poultry-producing nations. Notably, Brazil remains a beacon of resilience in this regard, having not encountered this disease in its commercial poultry operations. In 2022, the nation held a commanding 35.5% market share in the global chicken meat export landscape.

Looking at production, Brazil is setting ambitious targets. The nation aims to produce between 15.35 million metric tons of chicken meat in 2024, showcasing a positive trajectory from the 14.8-14.9 million metric tons estimated for the preceding year.

The pork sector in Brazil is also experiencing promising growth. Projections suggest a pork production range of 5.1 million to 5.15 million metric tons in 2024, a slight increase from the 5 million-5.1 million metric tons estimated for 2023. Correspondingly, Brazil’s aspirations in the pork export arena are evident. The country is targeting an export volume of 1.3 million metric tons of pork in 2024, signaling an upward trend from the 1.22 million metric tons shipped in 2022.

In its quest for market diversification and expansion, Brazil is actively engaged in discussions to tap into new horizons for its pork products. Markets such as the United Kingdom and Malaysia are under consideration for potential entry points. Luis Rua, the director of ABPA, radiated optimism regarding Brazil’s export trajectory. He underscored the nation’s promising prospects in new market landscapes and also highlighted the potential advantages stemming from the challenges faced by competitors, with notable references to the European Union and Canada.
