Plukon Food Group, a prominent Dutch poultry manufacturer, has recently finalized the acquisition of Sambau, a well-established Spanish poultry producer.

While specific financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, Plukon highlighted the strategic importance of integrating the expertise and resources of both companies to drive growth and enhance offerings for customers in the Madrid region.

Established in 1986, Sambau is a family-owned business known for distributing and processing a variety of chicken products within the Spanish market. With an annual revenue of €21 million ($22.5 million) in 2023, Sambau operates with 56 employees at its headquarters in Madrid.

Plukon CEO Kees Kraijenoord expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “Combining the knowledge and experience of Sambau with our own operations will create valuable synergies for our customers. We are looking forward to this new cooperation in Spain.”

This acquisition marks Plukon’s further expansion into the Spanish market. In 2020, the group made its initial entry into Spain with the acquisition of Grupo de Gestión Empresarial Avícola (VMR), enabling access to the Spanish foodservice market. Subsequently, in January of this year, Plukon acquired Redondo, both of which are based in Madrid.

Sambau represents Plukon’s fourth acquisition in the past year. Earlier, the group acquired assets from Polish poultry company Algas SP, including a slaughterhouse and processing facilities near Katowice, Poland. This move aimed to enhance Plukon’s capacity to supply retail and foodservice customers with high-quality poultry products in Poland and across Europe.

In February, Plukon also acquired a 51% stake in Dutch poultry company JA ter Maten. However, financial details of these transactions remain undisclosed.

Headquartered in Wezep, in the Dutch municipality of Oldebroek, Plukon produces a wide range of chicken products, meat alternatives, ready meals, and salads. With an annual turnover of €3.1 billion in 2023, the company operates across multiple European markets, including the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Poland, and now, Spain.

Plukon’s extensive network comprises 34 production sites and employs approximately 9,500 people across its markets.
