The USDA’s weekly broiler hatchery numbers continue to suggest increased production. Last week, 245.241 million broiler-type eggs were placed into incubation, a modest rise from the previous week and a 3% increase compared to a year ago, with an average hatchability rate of 79.2%.
In addition, 190.327 million broiler-type chicks entered meat production, marking slight increases both week-over-week and year-over-year. These chicks are expected to reach the market starting next month.
The USDA’s updated annual broiler production projection will be released on July 12th.

In Arkansas, 25.529 million eggs were set, up from 25.139 million a week ago, with placements at 21.521 million chicks compared to 20.771 million last week. In Kentucky, 8.219 million eggs were set, slightly higher than 8.157 million a week ago, with placements at 5.902 million chicks, up from 5.883 million last week. Missouri saw 8.992 million eggs set, a small increase from 8.963 million a week ago, with placements at 5.315 million chicks compared to 5.364 million last week. For California, Tennessee, and West Virginia combined, 13.541 million eggs were set, up from 13.244 million a week ago, with placements at 12.401 million chicks, down from 12.848 million last week.
