Foster Farms to Shut Down Turlock Turkey Plant, Cutting 519 Jobs

Foster Farms has announced the closure of its fresh turkey processing plant in Turlock, effective May 9, 2025, leading to the loss of 519 jobs. This decision aligns with the company’s broader strategic adjustments in response to shifting market demands.

Despite the closure, Foster Farms will maintain a presence in the Central Valley, keeping its fully cooked poultry facility operational in Turlock. No other locations within the company will be affected by this change.

Employees impacted by the shutdown will have the opportunity to transfer to available positions at other Foster Farms locations in the region. Additionally, the company has committed to offering personalized job placement assistance and support services to help workers transition.

Foster Farms leadership acknowledged the significant impact on employees, emphasizing their appreciation for the dedication and hard work of the affected staff. They assured that efforts would be made to support team members throughout the transition process.

A formal notification sent to employees on January 24, 2025, confirmed the closure of multiple facilities in Turlock, including the fresh turkey operations, turkey live haul, and turkey feed mill. The employment separations will begin on or around May 9, with no bumping rights available for employees, meaning no options for displaced workers to replace those with less seniority.

In response to the announcement, Turlock Mayor Amy Bublak recognized the company’s efforts to assist employees with job placement and transfers. She extended her support to those affected, acknowledging the difficulties they face during this transition period.
