A chicken processing plant in Steuben County is cancelling production operations for all shifts Monday, May 4th, as it waits to receive COVID-19 test results for its employees.
On Friday, Miller Poultry announced six of its team members and one Department of Agriculture employee had tested positive for the coronavirus.
Since then, the plant has begun testing all employees. However, on Sunday, the plant said it’s still waiting on results from testing administered Friday and Saturday.
The plant said the closure Monday is “strictly being done as a precautionary measure to protect our employees and communities.”
Miller Poultry employs more than 1,000 people.
Plant executives said on Friday they were working with Cameron Hospital to test employees. They also announced additional safety and sanitation measures, including disinfectant fogging, PPE, temperature checks and social distancing.
