The North Carolina Egg Association proudly announces that Alex Simpson, of Simpson’s Eggs based in Monroe, North Carolina, has been appointed as the Chair of the American Egg Board for a second consecutive year. This announcement comes following the recent vote by the American Egg Board during their annual meeting held in San Antonio, Texas on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Comprising 18 producer members and their alternates, the American Egg Board is tasked with advancing the interests of egg farmers across the United States. Annually, the Secretary of Agriculture appoints half of the Board members for two-year terms from nominees provided by eligible producer organizations. Following this process, the Board nominates and appoints its Executive Committee, a responsibility that was fulfilled during the recent meeting.
Alex Simpson, who also serves as the President of the North Carolina Egg Association Board of Directors, hails from a family legacy of egg farming, representing the fourth generation of egg producers in Union County. In his capacity as Chair of the American Egg Board, Simpson is committed to working collaboratively with egg farmers nationwide to enhance domestic and foreign markets for eggs and egg products.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the opportunity to continue leading the American Egg Board, Simpson remarked, “Serving on the Board and collaborating with the Executive Committee is an honor and privilege. I am surrounded by passionate individuals and industry leaders who are committed to sustainable farming and feeding America.”
Joining Simpson on the Executive Committee is John Watson, Vice President of Accounting & Marketing Stewardship at Braswell Family Farms, based in Nashville, North Carolina, who assumes the role of Treasurer. Both Simpson and Watson represent Area I, encompassing states in the Eastern United States.
Area I – East States: Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia
