Allen Harim Forced to Depopulate

The following letter is being circulated on Facebook. Lancaster Farming is awaiting comment from Allen Harim:

Dear Growers,

COVID-19 continues to be a challenge for all of us in the poultry industry. Over the last two weeks, Allen Harim’s plant attendance has continued to decline and is now at 50% normal operation. We are no longer able to harvest the amount of birds needed daily or weekly to maintain target weights and ages.

When we started noticing the downward trend in attendance, we reduced the number of eggs set and chicks placed. Unfortunately, reduced placements will not make an impact for another six weeks, and with the continued attendance decline, and building bird inventory daily, we are forced to make a very difficult decision.

Starting Friday, April 10, we will begin depopulating flocks in the field. If your flock is chosen, we will reach out to you and provide further details. Growers, whose flocks we depopulate, will be fairly compensated by Allen Harim.

This is a very difficult time for all of us and we appreciate your support. Together we will get through this.

If you have any questions, please give us a call.

Thank You,

Michele V. Minton

Director of Live Operations
