Three million egg laying hens are being euthanized in Ohio after highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was confirmed. The positive detections in the Defiance County commercial egg laying were confirmed by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) after a sample was first tested at the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and then confirmed at the APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories.
