US and Canada Reports

Each sample was tested for 6 major mycotoxin groups of:

A-Trichothecenes (A-Trich): T-2, HT-2, Neosolaniol, Diacetoxyscirpenol
B-Trichothecenes (B-Trich): Deoxynivalenol (DON/Vomitoxin), Acetyl-deoxynivalenol, Nivalenol, Fusarenon X
Fumonisins (FUM): B1, B2, B3
Zearalenone (ZEN)
Aflatoxins (Afla): B1, B2, G1, and G2
Ocha

Summary

The survey results represent samples sent in for surveillance testing only and does not include any sample submitted following clinical signs. In the report we discuss preliminary trends of each of these feed ingredients regarding mycotoxin prevalence and contamination levels.

USA Corn

  • 180 corn samples were tested
  • 83% of samples were positive for at least one mycotoxin vs. 96% in 2019
  • 47% of samples had more than one mycotoxin, vs 71% in 2019
  • Average contamination levels:
Mycotoxins 2020 2019
A-Trichothecenes 1% 2%
B-Trichothecenes 56% 81%
Fumonisins 61% 78%
Zearalenone 17% 46%
Aflatoxins 4% 3%
Ochratoxin A 1% 0%
  • Overall, the mycotoxin contamination in 2020 corn seems relatively lower in comparison to 2019 corn.

USA Corn By-Products

  • 61 corn by-product samples (DDGs and corn gluten meal) were tested
  • 100% of samples were positive for at least one mycotoxin vs. 99% in 2019
  • 98% of samples had more than one mycotoxin, vs 99% in 2018
  • Average contamination levels:
Mycotoxins 2020 2019
A-Trichothecenes 3% 6%
B-Trichothecenes 100% 100%
Fumonisins 98% 98%
Zearalenone 85% 94%
Aflatoxins 7% 2%
Ochratoxin A 5% 4%
  • Overall, the mycotoxin contamination in corn by-products in 2020 seems similar to 2019.

Canadian Corn

  • 18 corn samples were tested
  • 88% of samples were positive for at least one mycotoxin vs. 96% in 2019
  • 50% of samples had more than one mycotoxin, vs 71% in 2019
  • Average contamination levels:
Mycotoxins 2020 2019
A-Trichothecenes 33% 27%
