A federal judge has given initial approval to a $32 million settlement between Cargill and a group of turkey buyers who alleged price-fixing in the industry.
According to court records, Cargill recently agreed to the multi-million-dollar settlement to address claims that it collaborated with other producers to drive up turkey prices. While the deal still requires final approval, it would push the total financial recovery for the Direct Purchaser Plaintiffs (DPPs) to $37.1 million. This includes a $4.6 million settlement reached with Tyson Foods in 2021.
Beyond the financial settlement, Cargill has committed to assisting the plaintiffs in their legal battle against other turkey suppliers that have yet to settle.
