Retail giant Target is the latest company to accuse major poultry producers of price-fixing.
In the lawsuit, filed in a US District Court in Illinois last Friday, the retailer said it is seeking damages, the amount to be determined at trial, and payment of its legal fees.
A similar suit was filed last Friday by fast food company Chick-fil-A. Both allege that the nation’s top chicken suppliers reduced production to force an increase in prices and then coordinated pricing for meat supplies.
Earlier this year the Justice Department charged several current and former chicken-company employees on criminal charges of bid-rigging and price-fixing.
