On World Egg Day, First Lady Dr. Jill Biden traveled to Raymond, Ohio, to visit and tour Onward Farms, a family-owned egg farm by co-founder and CEO Sandra Lausecker and her brother Daniel Lausecker. In a tour led by the American Egg Board (AEB) and Sandra, Biden learned about egg production and what it takes to get food on tables across America.

The tour offered the First Lady an in-depth look at Outward Farms’ operations – from spending time with the hens and understanding what goes into keeping them strong and healthy to learning about the stringent on-farm measures to ensure food safety. Dr. Biden also saw how eggs are washed and inspected before being delivered to retailers. After coming off the 2022-2023 high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) outbreak and other ongoing biosecurity risks, Dr. Biden also learned about the importance of biosecurity and the efforts farmers take to protect their flocks.

“The opportunity to showcase our innovative approach to egg farming, sustainability efforts such as renewable energy and a unique manure management program, feature an overview of our future Education Center, and share the incredible work that U.S. egg farmers do each day to bring nutritious, high-quality eggs to Americans makes me very proud,” said Lausecker. “We take the health and safety of our birds and disease prevention extremely seriously, and worked to ensure that this very special tour could be accomplished while maintaining the highest levels of biosecurity and disease prevention.”

Sandra and Daniel are active UEP members, with Sandra recently being elected as the UEP Board Secretary. The organization is proud that World Egg Day was celebrated with a visit from one of UEP’s own and is eager to see what else is in store for the U.S. egg industry.
