Foster Farms chicken slaughterhouse permit for south Eugene put on hold

Oregon regulators have canceled a public hearing that was scheduled for Aug. 29 on a proposed wastewater permit that would allow Foster Farms to reopen its shuttered chicken slaughterhouse in Creswell, south of Eugene.

Foster Farms officials declined to talk about the permit on Wednesday. In an emailed statement, they said they have no immediate plans to reopen the facility.

But the permit would allow them to do so if they chose.

The permitting process is now on hold, while Lane County determines whether a necessary land use permit for the property has expired, according to the state Department of Environmental Quality.

If so, Foster Farms would need to obtain a new land use permit before DEQ can proceed with the wastewater permit.
