A Michigan egg producer building a $100 million egg production facility just outside Mercersburg has revamped its corporate website.
Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch announced the re-launch of its corporate website, www.herbrucks.com, this week. The website has several new, interactive features highlighting the Herbruck’s story for its business partners and current and prospective employees.
“We are excited about our website re-launch, which helps us tell our story of a fourth-generation family company committed to being good stewards, good neighbors and good partners,” said Herbruck’s President Greg Herbruck.
Plans for a new facility in Mercersburg
Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch plans a $100,000 facility on a 335–acre Corner Road farm in Montgomery Township just outside Mercersburg. The Michigan-based company broke ground last summer, but is awaiting final approval of its environmental permits for the site.
“We are continuing our transparent efforts to submit information to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to ensure that the site will comply with all environmental requirements,” Herbruck said in a statement this week.
He said the corporation has site permits and are complying with DEP requests for additional information.
“We are confident that this effort will be successful and are anticipating any outstanding issues will be resolved by the department in the near future,” he said.
Four poultry barns will be built during Phase 1 of the project. That phase includes an egg processing plant and manure pelletizing operation with a storage building.
The new sustainable, cage-free egg-laying facility will use innovative technology that processes hen litter into organic fertilizer on site.
Herbruck said that the process will drastically reduce odor, eliminate flies and provide unidentifiable rich organic fertilizer.
Creating 190 new jobs
When completed, the facility will create 190 new local jobs, the company says. Herbruck acknowledged during last June’s groundbreaking that it could take several years to complete the Mercersburg facility. When fully built out, it will have eight barns housing over two million cage-free hens that will lay a billion eggs a year.
He said the company takes pride in supplying major retailers and foodservice outlets across the nation with the best eggs through its ‘Serve the Bird’ approach. That approach provides the best care, handling, nutrition and environmental conditions for the company’s flock, he said.
“We are also proud to provide our nearly 900 employees with a safe and healthy workplace,” he said.
Herbruck’s already has a cold-storage facility on Sunset Pike where it stores eggs shipped from its main plant in Michigan. The facility distributes those eggs to restaurants up and down the East Coast. The facility employs about a dozen workers and drivers.

The company’s updated website includes a detailed history of the Herbruck’s family, its leadership in egg production dating back to 1958. It also includes background on the company’s dedication to the environment, care for Herbruck’s families and its commitment to being a good business neighbor, and info about its products.
Current and prospective employees can learn about Herbruck’s second-to-none benefits on the website, according to the website promo claims.
Herbruck’s commitment to animal care, sustainability and innovation has earned it recognition as a leader in the poultry industry.
In 2018, Herbruck’s received the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association’s Family Farm Environmental Excellence Award for its manure handling system, wastewater treatment system and other sustainable business practices.
The Hebruck’s family received the 2019 Leaders and Legends award by the Michigan Agri-Business Association.
Herbruck’s has locations in Michigan, Indiana and Pennsylvania.
