The Iowa Poultry & Egg Scholarship Foundation is pleased to announce the 2021 Scholarship Winners.

Established in 2020, the Iowa Poultry & Egg Scholarship Foundation was created by the Iowa Egg Council and Iowa Poultry Association to encourage poultry and egg education, and engagement in the poultry and egg community.

The Returning College Student Award will be presented to Abby Bean, attending Iowa State University and majoring in Animal Science with a minor in Feed Technology. Bean is a graduate of Sioux Central High School, where she was active in 4-H (Council Member) and FFA (Chapter Vice-President).

Bean also organized advanced and basic poultry workshops for local and surrounding counties 4-Hers. She has assisted at the poultry barn at the Iowa State Fair, as well as the Animal Learning Center, and is active in raising broilers on her family farm. Bean’s goal is to become an animal nutritionist.

Bean shared, “By receiving this scholarship, I will be able to maximize my college experience through service-learning, volunteer opportunities, and internships.”

The High School Graduating Senior Award will be presented to Abby Kaska. Kaska will graduate from Regina High School this spring, and attend Iowa State University, majoring in Animal Science.

Kaska started raising poultry 5 years ago, and now manages her own small-scale poultry business, raising layers, broilers, exhibition birds (and even a few ducks). Kaska also manages her own marketing and advertising projects for her flock. She serves as a junior poultry superintendent in her county, is active in 4-H, and will represent Iowa at the National 4-H Agri-Science Summit this spring.

Kaska plans to become a veterinarian, and said, “I will welcome scholarship support to help me achieve my goal of becoming a veterinarian to serve others.”

Iowa Poultry Association Executive Director, Kevin Stiles, said, “We had a strong group of applicants for our inaugural scholarship award. We are pleased to announce these two outstanding winners, and look forward to watching their successes.”

Bean and Kaska will be honored at the 2021 Iowa Poultry Association Fall Festival and Annual Meeting Banquet on September 15th.

Founded in 1929, Iowa Poultry Association is a non-profit, membership-based association focused on actively raising confidence in the poultry community through leadership, support, advocacy, and education. For more information, visit www.iowapoultry.com
