Jennie-O Announces Job Cuts and Closures at Multiple Hatchery Locations

Hormel Foods, parent company of Jennie-O Turkey Store, has filed a notice for the elimination of 38 jobs at its Barron hatchery location with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

The layoff is set to begin June 28. The facility is closing as part of the company’s plans to consolidate operations at one hatchery location near the Jennie-O corporate headquarters in Willmar, Minnesota.

The layoff notice stated, “The layoff is expected to be permanent. All employees who have not otherwise voluntarily resigned or accepted inner-company transfer to another available position by the effective date of facility closure will be severance pay eligible.”

Positions in the layoff include: poultry gender technician (8 jobs), truck driver (5), hatchery maintenance specialist (4), poultry service operator (4), hatchery sanitation (3), hatchery operator (3), part time hatchery operator (3), and single positions for egg room coordinator, hatch room quality control monitoring, hatchery information coordinator, poult service quality control monitoring, candler, hatchery technician, hatchery supervisor and hatchery manager.

The company is also closing hatcheries in Henning and Foley, Minnesota.
