Poultry health professionals from throughout the world will gather in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Jul. 29 to Aug. 2, to discuss the latest research, innovations and insights on poultry health.

The American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP) annual meeting will cover a broad spectrum of poultry health topics, including disease management, biosecurity, diagnostics, responsible antibiotic usage and food safety.

Of particular interest this year is high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI), and many sessions will delve into the virus’s spread and pathogenicity, along with control measures and new research findings. For example, the keynote for this session is on the global evolution and intercontinental spread of H5Nx clade 2344b HPAI viruses since 2020, given by David Swayne, DVM, PhD, with the US Department of Agriculture.

“Our program committee has made a particular effort to include a lot of speakers on HPAI sprinkled throughout the program,” said Nathan Bevans-Kerr, executive director for AAAP.

More than 140 sessions

The 2022 AAAP conference will feature more than 140 scientific sessions on specific poultry diseases. In addition, attendees can listen to presentations on immunology, virology, bacteriology, parasitology, vaccinology, diagnostics and food safety. The conference will also feature more than 75 posters. The in-person conference is expected to draw more than 600 attendees, as scientists welcome the opportunity to once more meet in person after last year’s virtual meeting, Bevans-Kerr said.

“Nothing can replace the connections and networking opportunities that you get with an in-person meeting,” he added. “Everyone is ready for a great time and a great learning experience.”

The American Association of Avian Pathologists is an international association whose mission is to promote scientific knowledge to enhance the health, well-being and productivity of poultry to provide safe and abundant food for the world. For more information about the 2022 AAAP conference, click here or visit aaap.info.
