At its virtual October 22, 2021, annual general meeting, Poultry Industry Council re-elected three returning members to its Board of Directors.

Long-standing board member Ed Verkley of Verkley Enterprises was re-elected to the board, along with Caroline Gonano, Turkey Farmers of Canada and Mike Terpstra, Association of Ontario Chicken Processors. The board was pleased to re-elect Ed Verkley, to fill the Chair position. Greg Lansink, TFO was re-elected to fill the vacant Vice-Chair position, and Cathy Lennon, OFA continues to serve as Treasurer.

“The work PIC carries out each year relies on a dedicated roster of volunteer directors. Our organization is guided by their strong leadership and drive to improve the sector,” said Ed Verkley, Chair. “This past year has allowed us to practice being flexible and nimble as our context changed continually.”

As with many organizations, PIC made the transition to working and delivering its programs virtually over this past year and a half. During this past fiscal year, 16 events were held with over 1600 participants tuning in to learn about a range of topics from production, husbandry to business and welfare. The AGM presentations highlighted a rebound from having to cancel several longstanding events at the onset of the pandemic, to delivering them in a virtual platform, including the National Poultry Show.

“With recent announcements about further opening up and strong vaccination rates, keystone events like the National Poultry Show should be a success this spring,” said Verkley, “this coming year won’t be without its challenges for us, but I know we have a strong team and industry support to help us navigate this next leg of the pandemic.”
