The American Feed Industry Association, in partnership with Feedstuffs and the U.S. Poultry and Egg Association (USPOULTRY), named Sanderson Farms’ Collins, Miss., plant as its 2021 Integrator Feed Facility of the Year (FFY). Gary Huddleston, AFIA’s director of feed manufacturing and regulatory affairs, presented the award yesterday during the USPOULTRY Feed Mill Management Seminar.
“Sanderson Farms’ Collins facility demonstrates excellence in all of the FFY scoring areas – safety, quality control and food safety, government compliance, housekeeping and facility appearance, productivity and efficiency, sustainability, employee development and community and customer relations,” Huddleston said. “They are designed to incorporate future expansion and meet changing demands and needs.”
Sanderson Farms’ Collins facility produces more than 400,000 tons of poultry feed each year. The Collins facility prioritizes employee engagement and morale; employees are included in daily conversations about safety and the company’s training programs allow supervisors to assist employees by providing personal attention.
Facility personnel are encouraged to offer suggestions for improvements while reviewing and implementing changes. Sanderson Farms also places a high priority on promoting community involvement, participating in many functions at the local level and encouraging employees to become involved in their community. Sanderson Farms’ Collins facility also won the Integrator Feed Facility of the Year award in 2018.
The AFIA has been recognizing excellent feed manufacturing facilities through the Feed Facility of the Year program since 1985, with 2021 marking the first year that the association began issuing top industry awards to facilities in four categories: commercial dry, liquid feed, premix and ingredient, and integrator.
