Turkey has confirmed a new outbreak of the highly contagious H5N1 strain of avian influenza, also known as bird flu, at a commercial poultry farm, marking its first reported case in more than a year. The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) announced that the virus was detected in Konya province, where 211 birds out of a flock of approximately 790,000 died from the disease.
The outbreak in Turkey comes as part of a broader seasonal increase in bird flu cases across Europe and the Middle East. Bird flu is particularly concerning in densely populated poultry farms, as it can spread rapidly and lead to significant losses in the poultry industry. Turkish authorities are expected to take further measures to contain the spread, though no additional cases have been reported.
