According to the latest USDA Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry Outlook report, US table egg production reached 665.1 million dozen in January, marking a 2.6% increase compared to January 2023.
The average flock size for January was 310.4 million birds, slightly higher than the previous year but 19.3 million birds below the five-year January average.
This year-over-year increase in egg production is primarily due to an improved average daily lay rate of 82.9 eggs per 100 layers, which is a 2.5% rise from January last year.
As of February 1st, the table egg layer inventory stood at 309.3 million birds, reflecting a slight decline both month over month and year over year. Consequently, the first-quarter table egg production forecast has been adjusted down by 10 million dozen to 1,940 million dozen.
Projections for the following quarters remain unchanged, with 1,975 million dozen expected in the second quarter, 2,015 million dozen in the third, and 2,060 million dozen in the fourth quarter.
Overall, the 2024 table egg production projection is set at 7,990 million dozen, representing a 1.6% year-over-year increase.
