The USDA says poultry production during June 2020 was up 7% from June 2019 at 4.323 billion pounds. The total included 3.815 billion pounds of chicken, also up 7%, and 500.704 million pounds of turkey, 5% above the previous year.
Year to year, the slaughter levels were up for both chickens and turkeys and were also higher than the previous month as many plants resumed full operations after being slowed down or closed by COVID-19 infections. The average live weights of most chickens and turkeys were also up on the year.
The top production state for chicken was North Carolina, followed by Georgia and Arkansas, while Minnesota led the way on turkey, ahead of Indiana and North Carolina.
