In a recent press release, the USPOULTRY Foundation proudly announced the allocation of $297,580 in student recruiting grants to propel the next generation of poultry industry leaders. The grants were distributed among six leading U.S. universities with Poultry Science departments and 20 other institutions offering industry-related programs.

The recipients of the grants in the Poultry Science departments include the University of Arkansas ($29,684), Auburn University ($31,719), the University of Georgia ($27,868), Mississippi State University ($29,133), North Carolina State University ($31,719), and Texas A&M University ($49,877).

Under the Foundation’s Industry Education Recruitment Funding Program, an additional 20 institutions with industry-related programs received recruiting and retention grants. These initiatives are pivotal in showcasing the diverse career paths within the poultry industry and encouraging talented young individuals to pursue studies in this field.

Michael Levengood, Vice President and Chief Animal Care Officer for Perdue Farms and Chairman of the USPOULTRY Foundation, emphasized the importance of attracting capable individuals to the industry. He stated, “Our industry needs talented young people to see all the amazing and varied career paths offered in our industry, so they can make the choice to become our leaders of tomorrow.”

The grants, made possible through contributions from companies, individuals, and families, as well as funds generated from the International Poultry Expo, reflect the industry’s commitment to investing in education. The USPOULTRY Foundation, established in 1994 by the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, continues to play a vital role in providing recruiting and retention funds to universities with Poultry Science departments. In 2004, the Industry Education Recruitment Funding Program expanded its scope, allowing other colleges and universities with industry-related studies to apply for these grants.

This significant investment in education underscores the industry’s dedication to nurturing a skilled and dynamic workforce, ensuring a sustainable future for the poultry sector.
