- Zoetis (NYSE:ZTS) is developing a bird flu vaccine geared toward certain strains as the virus spreads rapidly.
- In an interview with Bloomberg, CEO Kristin Peck said that the US Department of Agriculture and other agencies are asking her company and others to develop bird flu vaccines.
- While the exec admitted creating a vaccine that would be effective against the current strain of the flu would take roughly a year, other bird flu shots it has would still be “quite effective.”
- Nearly 59M birds have been infected by the H5N1 strain to date, according to the CDC. In addition, the virus has spread to other animals and has even been found in one human.
- In 2022, the outbreak of bird flu, also known as avian flu, reached its highest level ever.
